Take care of your car in the garage, and the car will take care of you on the road.-Amit Kalantri

Cars are a daily part of many people’s lives and now the world cannot do without them. They are more now of another body part. This post can be for car enthusiasts but I don’t know what car enthusiast you’d be if you can barely start a car. I’ll focus on the people who seem to have never started a car or even sat in the driver’s seat.

Now a car is an absolute unit with many parts that all play a key role. Since I bet none of you is a mechanic here I don’t have to tell you how the gear box converts the engine’s power to useful torque and speed for the wheels by switching that every gear is in the system for a smaller or larger gear to get either less torque or more torque respectively.

I would like to break down this whole article into bits so I can have more of a systematic breakup and flow of explaining a few things. Any in depth detail varies by car model and manufacturer so it’s painfully difficult to try and fit it all in one post. That article will basically be a pdf at that point.

    Engine and computer

When it comes to the engine. This is the power house of the car that provides all the energy that is required to run the car by burning fuel. You must be now wondering how this contraption works? Internal combustion engines, like those in most cars, work by burning fuel and air in cylinders, causing pistons to move and rotate a crankshaft, which in turn powers the vehicle. There are also electric cars that tend to use batteries instead to power up the whole car but these in turn have a hectic charging time and have a limited mileage before the car is charged again. I wonder why you’d love to have an electric  car, where’s the fun in being automatic and silent you’d ask? Well they have an overall impact in environmental conservation though they are bland and boring.

Hybrid cars are more common than they were a few years ago and I want to believe that these have the better of both ends with being able to switch between fuel and electricity potentially giving them improved fuel economy, reduced emissions, and potentially lower maintenance costs.

Unless you have a car that was manufactured before the 1960s then you definitely have a car that’s integrated with a computer that was primarily made for. The fuel injection systems of the car. More recently cars have full blown computers integrated with them being able to accomplish multimedia tasks and computations with ease to provide a seamless experience. Though rare there are cars modified to house gaming consoles and so much more than the average person would need a car for. Like why the hell do you need a TV and console in your car, that’s what your house is for.

    Dashboard

This is arguably the most important part of a car to a driver and to anyone who it may concern. This indicates a number of things in the car ranging from engine temperatures, fuel level, engine speed, indicators, open doors, a speedometer and many more indicators that make a driver aware of any potential dangers.

The dashboard of a car with various indicators on it to bring the driver's attention to certain things about his car.

    Fuel systems

There exists diesel and petrol car fuel systems which have different operation in that in a petrol fuel system, the fuel is ignited by a spark plug while in a diesel engine it’s ignited  through highly compressed hot air. Diesel is denser than petrol and provides about 15% more energy by volume. This is also noticeable in pricing since diesel is more expensive than petrol.

Diesel car systems are really common in large vehicles because of the obvious superior torque, better fuel economy, and enhanced durability. Petrol on the other hand, more common in smaller vehicles but too has a slight bit advantage over diesel in purchase price, maintenance and emissions.

As per both systems, they contain different fuel injection systems that inject fuel into the cylinders of the engine for combustion to take place. They are well explained on this website.

    Body

      • Interior
          • A car’s interior is an even bigger issue since most people are not aware of routine interior car cleans. This leaves a lot of dirt and food bits to get stuck in between the nooks and crannies. So get your ass up and make sure your interior is clean, all you’ll need is a vacuum, micro fibre cloth, a detailing brush and a few cleaning solutions. Here’s a guide to cleaning your interior.

      • Exterior
          • A car exterior is the most precious thing to any car enthusiast. It needs to give that eye catching shine every time someone sees it. Though we all know a car’s exterior is what really makes a car. To the average guy who doesn’t want to speed at 200km\hr, a sports car level speed is not really needed. Maybe it’s something that you can show off to the boys when you’re having them over for a grilling session and a few beers but it’s not useful at all.

    Tires

    When it comes to tires, you definitely need to know how to change them at least. This is one of the simplest things you can do and look technical while doing it. Now let’s see how you can change a tire;

Steps to Change a Tire: skip to the next segment
Find a Safe Location, If you have a manual transmission, put the car in first gear. If it’s an automatic, put it in “Park.” Retrieve your spare tire, jack, and lug wrench. If you have wheel chocks, place them behind the wheel diagonally opposite the flat tire to prevent the car from rolling. Loosen the Lug Nuts (While the Car is Still on the Ground). If you have a hubcap, you may need to remove it first. Some can be pried off with a flathead screwdriver or the end of your lug wrench, while others might unscrew. Loosen the lug nuts about a quarter to half a turn. Do not remove them completely yet. Position the Jack and Raise the Car raise the car until the flat tire is a few inches off the ground. Ensure the jack is stable and the car doesn’t wobble. Now that the tire is off the ground, you can fully unscrew and remove the lug nuts. Pull the flat tire straight off the wheel hub. All you’ll need to do now is replace the tire, put back the lug nuts and  lower the jack.

    Car safety

Car safety should never be ignored since it’s more of a precaution that depicts whether you survive or not in case of an accident. I fully encourage everyone to fully comply with it. Basic car safety focuses on preventative measures and features designed to minimize accidents and reduce injuries during a crash. Many car manuals include a car safety section that talks about car safety.

    Road safety

Road safety consists of measures and strategies to prevent road traffic accidents and injuries, including engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency services. It aims to protect all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, from being killed or seriously injured. Road safety initiatives often focus on reducing risky behaviors like speeding, drunk driving, and distracted driving, as well as improving road infrastructure and vehicle safety. Breaking road safety rules is very punishable and can lead to imprisonment. Take care while you’re on the road.

    Car maintenance

Most car manufacturers recommend a full car service once a year or every 12,000 mile.
